Terms of use
Terms, in plain words.
Last updated October 24, 2026. By using the ItemScan app or itemscan.ca you agree to these terms. They are short on purpose.
What ItemScan is
ItemScan is a tool for recording, organising and keeping track of things you collect. It is made by a sole developer in Alberta, Canada.
Your data is yours
Everything you record in the app belongs to you. You can export it or delete it at any time. We claim no rights to your records, your notes or your backups.
Accounts
An account is optional. It is tied to your email address and secured with codes we email you. Keep your email account safe, since anyone who can read it can sign in as you. One account per person; you are responsible for what is done with yours. You can delete the account from inside the app at any time.
Values are estimates
Any market value the app shows is an estimate drawn from the sources it names, on the date it names. It is information to help you, not an appraisal, not a valuation certificate and not financial advice. Values for insurance or sale should be confirmed with a qualified appraiser or dealer. We are not responsible for decisions made on the basis of an estimate.
Identification can be wrong
Scanning finds the most likely match and asks you to confirm it. The final record is yours to check. We do our best to be accurate and we say when we are unsure, but we cannot guarantee that every identification is correct.
Using the app responsibly
- Use it for your own collection, or a collection you are responsible for.
- Do not try to break into it, overload it, or use it to collect data about other people.
- Catalogue names, brands and product names in the app describe the items you own; they belong to their owners and their appearance does not mean any affiliation with ItemScan.
Purchases
The app is free to use today. If paid features are added later, they will be sold through the App Store or Google Play under their terms, with the price shown before you buy and a way to restore a purchase on a new device.
No warranty
The app and the website are provided as they are. We work hard to keep them reliable, but we cannot promise they will always be available or free of mistakes. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from their use, including lost data; please keep backups.
Changes
If these terms change, the date at the top changes. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the new terms.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of Alberta and Canada.
